Eight Hours Pre-Assignment Training Course.This course must be completed before you can be employed as a security officer.

This course will cover an introduction to the Security Officer Act of 1992, the role of a security guard, legal powers and limitations, emergency situations, communications and public relations, access control, ethics and conduct, and a course review.An examination will also be administered. Participants who successfully complete the 8-hour course and receive a passing grade on the exam will receive an official course completion certificate.

Sixteen Hours On-the-job Training.This course must be taken one time during the first 90 days of employment as a security officer.

Eight Hours Annual In-service Training Course.Must be completed each year on a calendar year basis for each year succeeding the completion of the 16 Hour On-the-job Training Course.

This course is a requirement for all security officers in NY State and must be completed each calendar year.

The course is designed to be a refresher course on the major functions, ethics and legal powers of security officers.
